The boundaries of two areas in the Lake District have been extended to try to "protect" them from damage.

The Lake District National Park (LDNP) has also given areas in Bowness and Windermere conservation status to try to "preserve" their character.

A spokesman for the LDNP said giving the areas new status would prevent damage to trees and protect historic buildings.

The new areas include Lake Road in Bowness and Windermere's Church Street.

They also include Bank Road and Biskey Howe in Bowness, and Elleray Road and Ellerthwaite Road in Windermere.

Historic buildings in Bowness such as the former police station, built in 1858, and the Royalty Cinema, built in 1926, are included in the extension.
